In ASP.NET webform, I have 2 controls i.e a radiobuttongroup with 4 items and a checkbox after the control in a table cell. By default, the checkbox is rendered as an item wrap at the bottom of the radiobuttongroup. What I want is the checkbox appear beside after the radio buttons. I try some css style div such as display:inline or nowrap but it didn’t work. I view the client side html source and found that the radio button group is rendered as html table. I look for the control properties for the radiobuttongroup and found there is an option for RepeatLayout. I change the value from Table to Flow. Voila! It is now display as same row.

After changed, the HTML is rendered as span with style display: inline.

I have been developed using ASP.NET 2.0 using Visual Studio 2010 using VB. Reason why I stick to use ASP.NET 2.0 is because my hosting provider only support ASP.NET version 2.0 and 4.0 and I feel the former is more light and normally come installed in Windows 7.

All the while, I am happy developed in Windows 7 until I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. It has turned to disaster that my Ajax controls are no longer working. In the designer, it showed Error Creating Control and the description is pointing to AjaxControlToolkit which may not configured properly.

Error Creating Control - ToolkitScriptManager1
Failed to create designer 'AjaxControlToolkit.ToolkitScriptManager, AjaxControlToolkit,
Version=1.0.20229.20821, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=28f01b0e84b6d53e'

I tried to search on the Internet but could not find any solution that worked. I tried to edit my Web.Config file and it didn’t help. I tried to reinstall ASPAJAXExtSetup.msi but the problem is still persist. I tried to switch the target framework to version 3.5 and it is working but this is not what I wanted.

Finally, I found the solution by adding a reference to System.Web.Extensions.Design

Hope this article can help those who are facing the same problem as me.

Microsoft just announced  a new lightweight web development IDE call WebMatrix. It is a good news for web developer who started to develop website or web application using ASP.Net. It includes IIS Developer Express (a development Web server), ASP.NET (a Web framework), and SQL Server Compact (an embedded database). The feature that most interested me is the ability to start developing from popular open source application such as Joomla, WordPress or Drupal. Microsoft also enable developer to install PHP in Windows and IIS through an easy installer call Web Platform Installer (Web PI). However, it seems MS is trying to promote its own SQL Server instead of using MySQL or other database system. For me, I already decided to switch my OS and development to Linux and using all open source tools. It is left to you to decide.
