I just got a new HTC Desire HD for myself as birthday gift this year. The phone cost RM2299 in the market. I sign up for DiGi Smart Plan therefore I get RM900 discount for the phone. The plan required a 24 months contract of Internet Unlimited plan where i need to pay RM63 every month until the contract ends. Until end of March 2011, DiGi offers a RM40 rebate for 6 months on this plan. I pay RM1399 for the phone using credit card and RM568 for advanced payment in cash. The advanced payment will be deducted from my bill. Voice call, sms and mms are charged by Pay-As-You-Use rates. The Internet Unlimited is by fair use basis where the bandwidth will drop to 128Kbps when 3GB limit reached every month. I love the phone functions and Android system. There are a lot of apps in the Android Market. There is one problem with the phone, its battery drains very fast. I need to charge the phone 2 times a day if I let the data transfer at background. Android 2.3 is coming out. Hopefully by upgrading the OS will improve the battery consumption.

Many DiGi broadband users may not aware that the APN setting for DiGi 3G is 3gdgnet. Most people connect their phone using diginet as the APN. The diginet APN is applied to GPRS phone or EDGE data SIM card. So, if you have problem connect to DiGi 3G, try use the first APN instead of the latter. Even DiGi FAQ doesn’t mentioned about this. The only page I found which has this information is http://ivenuetech.blogspot.com/2009/06/3g-broadband-apn.html

I have watched some Youtube videos all night to find out the meaning of cloud computing. It started when I wanted to find out the meaning behind cloud computing of  Ubuntu. I have been finding out the definition in wikipedia and website, but they are still making me confuse about the term. I tried to watch more and more videos explaining about the technology. Some videos are quite interesting in the manner they are presented. Check out  What is Cloud Computing? (by salesforce.com) and Cloud Computing Plain and Simple. And the best videos I found is Basic Cloud Computing.

What I understand is cloud computing means you use the service provided by a company, website or provider such as Google Docs and eyeOS from your device such as laptop or netbook with Internet connection to execute some tasks. You can do almost anything similar to what you can do on a normal desktop but you don’t need to install the software. For example, creating a spreadsheet or playing game. So that’s what we call the future of Web 2.0 technology and the services mentioned above are FREE! But if we are going to use this, I think we need a very high speed and stable Internet connection which I think Malaysia is still left behind. However, giant company like Microsoft is also going for the direction of cloud computing. Check out Windows Azure (but ya know, it is not Free).

Let’s explore the future of computing technology… 😉
